DHL Express joins hands with Eviation to open a new era of electric flight

Just now, DHL Express announced that it has ordered 12 Alice all-electric freighters from Seattle-based all-electric aircraft manufacturer Eviation, becoming its first customer and jointly opening a new chapter in aviation history.

Through this cooperation, DHL Express aims to establish an electric-driven international express delivery network and take a pioneering step towards achieving sustainable aviation development. Alice is the world's leading all-electric aircraft that can help airlines build and operate a "zero emission" fleet. Eviation expects to deliver the Alice all-electric aircraft ordered to DHL Express in 2024.

DHL Express CEO John Pearson said:

We have always firmly promoted the development of ‘zero emission’ logistics. Therefore, our investment has always followed the policy of continuously reducing our carbon footprint.

Electrification plays a vital role in advancing clean logistics operations, and will greatly help us achieve the overall goal of ‘zero emissions’ for sustainable development.

Since its establishment in 1969, DHL Express has been hailed as a pioneer in the aviation field. Through this cooperation with Eviation, we will join hands to usher in a new era of sustainable aviation development.

The Alice electric aircraft can be piloted by a pilot, with a load of 1200 kg (2600 lbs), and can be charged with electricity required per flight hour within 30 minutes. The maximum range is 815 kilometers (440 nautical miles). It can be used in all current piston and turbine aircraft. Operating in the environment.

Alice electric aircraft uses fewer movable parts of the electric motor, which not only improves the reliability, but also reduces the maintenance cost. In addition, its operating system can continuously monitor aircraft flight performance to ensure flight efficiency.

  Eviation CEO Omer Bar-Yohay said:

Since the establishment of the company, we have set the ambitious goal of starting a new era in the aviation industry with electric aircraft.

DHL is a leader in the sustainable cargo industry, and cooperation with DHL will promote the beginning of the era of electric flight. This cooperation is an important milestone for us to promote electric flight on a global scale.

Alice electric aircraft is an ideal choice for the regional aircraft market. It has low investment in station facilities and can be charged during the loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring the transit time and meeting DHL express's demand for timeliness.

Travis Cobb, Executive Vice President of DHL Express Global Network Operations and Aviation Business, said:

Eviation's innovation in developing all-electric aircraft is commendable. With its range and payload, Alice electric aircraft will help us promote the sustainable development of the global network.

DHL Express has always been committed to continuing to make substantial contributions to reducing carbon footprint, and continuous progress and innovation in the fleet and technology will further reduce carbon emissions. This is not only a very important step in the process of decarbonization for us, it will also push the entire aviation industry forward.

Adhering to the goals of innovation, performance and sustainability, Eviation opens a new era in the aviation industry with the Alice electric aircraft. Alice is specially designed to meet the needs of passenger and freight transportation, and will conduct its first test flight later this year.

Eviation Executive Chairman Roei Ganzarski said:

The demand for on-demand shopping and delivery services continues to increase. DHL can use the Alice electric aircraft to achieve clean, quiet and low-cost operations, which will bring more experience opportunities for users.

In the new sustainable development roadmap released by the DHL Group of Deutsche Post in the first quarter of this year, decarbonization of operations is one of the important components.

By 2030, the group will invest 7 billion euros (including operating expenses and fixed asset expenditures) to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The investment will be mainly used to promote the electrification of the "last mile" delivery fleet, the development and utilization of sustainable aviation fuel, and the construction of climate-neutral buildings.

As of now, the Group has implemented its "zero emission" strategy for 2050 for four years. In order to achieve this ambitious goal, the group has set a strong new mid-term goal. For example, the group actively responds to the widely recognized Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement.
