Cainiao Logistics and Atlas Air sign cargo agreement

OES has learned that Alibaba's supply chain company Cainiao Smart Logistics Network (Cainiao Smart Logistics Network) has signed a cargo charter agreement with Atlas Air. The company's goal is the South American e-commerce market.

According to the agreement, Atlas Fly will have charter flights to and from China, Brazil and Chile three times a week to "enhance Alibaba's extensive logistics network as the cross-border trade between China and Latin America continues to expand."

This service will be launched in November and will shorten the shipping time between China and the destination market from one week to three days on average.

This year, Cainiao’s parcels shipped to South America have increased significantly; in the third quarter of 2020, the company shipped more than 8 million parcels, twice the number of parcels shipped in the second quarter of this year.

"At Cainiao, we continue to invest in our network to support Alibaba merchants that operate more than 100,000 online stores," said William Xiong, Cainiao's chief strategist and general manager of export logistics.

"Our cooperation with Atlas Fly will help us build an efficient and reliable network to reach South America and other global destinations, greatly shortening the air delivery time of the merchants we support."

Atlas Air Worldwide President and CEO John Dietrich said: "We are very pleased to support Cainiao and Alibaba's fast-growing e-commerce business and its global expansion in South America. We look forward to further developing our partnership."

"The global scale of our operating network will enable Cainiao to continue to enhance its logistics capabilities and achieve its goal of providing faster delivery to customers worldwide."

Cainiao also stated that the company is committed to promoting international trade by improving overall supply chain efficiency and opening direct flights to major regions around the world. By the end of 2020, Cainiao is expected to operate about 1,300 charter flights.

At the same time, as service levels become more and more important to e-commerce shoppers, Alibaba has also formulated ambitious plans to shorten delivery times. The goal of the Chinese e-commerce giant is to achieve 24-hour delivery throughout China and 72-hour delivery globally.

Atlas Air is an American cargo airline, and the ACMI business model is the characteristic of the company. The main airport is Miami International Airport in Florida, USA
