The establishment of a provincial port group in Hubei, China

Wuhan Port and Shipping Development Group will be renamed as Hubei Port Group to integrate provincial state-owned port assets along the Yangtze and Han Rivers.

The provincial government will allocate 1 billion yuan (US$156 million) in fiscal funds in 2021 and 2022 to support major infrastructure construction and project development for port integration.

Last year, Hubei had a cargo throughput of 380 million tons and a container throughput of 2.29 million teu, a year-on-year increase of 23.9% and 9.8% respectively, making it a leader in the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River.

In recent years, in order to enhance port competitiveness and improve efficiency, China has successively established Shandong Port Group, Liaoning Port Group, Zhejiang Seaport Group and other provincial port groups.
