Maersk reforms multiple shipping networks in West Asia and Central Asia

Maersk decided to redesign its maritime network in West and Central Asia, connecting countries such as India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, the UAE and Saudi Arabia to the world.

Danish Airlines will launch a new ME4 service, directly covering routes between Doha and Northern Europe. The new product is expected to increase the time to market by 5 days, up to 6 days from the port of Jebel Ali to West Africa.

In addition, the transit time of ME3 service connecting Pakistani and Russian fresh produce exporters will also be improved. The company pointed out: "By maintaining the integrity of the end-to-end cold chain logistics provided by Maersk in Pakistan, the reduced transportation time will further reduce the waste of fresh produce."

Maersk also announced that its ME7 service will directly connect the lifestyle, retail, and automobile manufacturing industries in southern India to Europe. Freight is smooth and will not be affected by delays under congestion. The ME7 service will also provide direct and regular rotation between the Colombo and Salalah hubs.

Maersk pointed out in the statement: "The changes in the network are mainly to increase the speed to market, provide higher predictability, and provide customers with greater flexibility in the supply chain."

In addition, Maersk’s FI3 service will be changed from two weeks to weekly, providing importers with frequent choices of goods from the Far East to Northern India, while the container liner headquartered in Copegahene will start a new FI4 service that combines the previous Jade Express and Chennai Express, a direct flight service connecting Southeast Asia with India and Pakistan.

Mads Skov-Hansen, head of the Maerskia and Central Asia liner business cluster, said: “During the pandemic, unprecedented scale of operational challenges limited supply, while strong demand spikes led to major bottlenecks, capacity issues and unforeseen delays in the supply chain. "This prompted us to redesign our ocean network to overcome these challenges and make our customers' supply chains more resilient."

As part of the network update, the ME6 service and the AE1 transshipment in Colombo will be discontinued. According to the company, customers will continue to have the option of connecting goods to a full range of services in West and Central Asia.

"Ocean has redesigned the network with us. We not only provide our customers with predictability and resilience, but the greater speed market allows them to optimize inventory and operations to meet growing demand and competitive advantage," the restaurant Vempati commented, Regional Ocean Head of the management department, Maersk West and Central Asia.

Maersk stated in a statement that the network change will be implemented in stages and will not affect the overall deployment capacity of the global network.
