The world's largest aircraft transported 10 million masks to Germany

The world ’s largest aircraft—An-225 (Mriya) —carried out a mission for the German Armed Forces and carried more than 10 million masks to Germany as part of the country ’s efforts to fight the coronavirus.

As part of an overall project to transport 25 million masks, the aircraft landed at Leipzig / Halle Airport from China on Monday morning.

On Sunday, an Antonov An-124 had landed at Leipzig / Halle Airport. It arrived from Shanghai and landed in Almaty (Kazakhstan) en route, carrying 8.3 million masks.

Both aircraft belong to Ukrainian airline Antonov Airlines. These flights are coordinated by Antonov Salis, headquartered at Leipzig / Halle Airport, and the cargo is handled by PortGround.

Gótz Ahmelmann, CEO of the airport operator Mitteldeutsche Flughafen, said: "Leipzig / Halle Airport plays a key role in providing people with the necessary medical equipment to fight the Corona pandemic. As Germany ’s first At the second major cargo airport, we have been able to handle humanitarian aid flights safely and reliably in the past few weeks, delivering hundreds of tons of aid materials, and we will continue to do so. "

In addition to Antonov aircraft, since the end of March, approximately 15 aircraft carrying medical equipment have landed at Leipzig / Halle Airport.

An-225 has made several flights related to coronavirus. After being grounded for 18 months, it twice broke the record for the most cargo on board in April.

First, it shipped 1,000 cubic meters of personal protective equipment (PPE) from Tianjin to Warsaw on behalf of KGHM. A week later, the company shipped 150 metric tons of personal protective equipment from China to Paris Vattrie for use by a private company.
