Maersk joins the Global Zero Emissions Initiative



        APMøller Maersk is participating in a new program initiated by nine companies that aims to accelerate the transition to a net-zero global economy. v


   According to a statement, the "Transition to Zero Net Emissions" plan launched on July 21 aims to develop and provide research, guidance, and implementable roadmaps to enable all companies to achieve zero net emissions.


   The initiative will be led by founding members including Morse (APMøller)-Maersk, Danone, Mercedes-Benz AG, Microsoft, Natura & Co, NIKE, Starbucks, Unilever and Wipro, and the Environmental Protection Fund (EDF). The plan is supported by the non-profit organization BSR (Corporate Social Responsibility Organization), which develops sustainable business strategies and solutions through consulting, research and cross-departmental collaboration. BSR will serve as the secretariat of the initiative.


   The statement stated that the focus of the “transition to zero emissions” will be to achieve the business transformation required to achieve zero emissions by 2050, and will also promote extensive changes focusing on policy, innovation and finance.


   Nike CEO Andy Campion emphasized: "In terms of protecting our shared arena-our planet -, a moment cannot be wasted."


   Although more companies may join, the results of the initiative will be widely available to everyone. The initiative plans to complete the output of this work in 2025.


   The overall goal of global warming to stay below 1.5 degrees can only be achieved through strong alliances across departments and companies, said Maersk CEO Søren Skou.


   This work will follow the following principles:


   Focus on transformation: fulfill personal commitments and put them into action, including corporate strategy, governance and accountability, finance and operations, risk management, procurement, innovation and research and development, marketing and public affairs.

  Leverage existing efforts: Committed to open collaboration with existing net-zero programs (login, advocacy, department, methodological efforts) to use existing work and advance business transformation to net-zero.


   Strong governance and supervision: At the highest level of the company, the governance and supervision structure will strive to achieve zero emissions, including through the development of innovative products, services and business models.


   Vigorously reduce and eliminate carbon emissions within the scope of the expansion of the enterprise: Net zero emissions require reductions in the entire value chain, including the impact on products, services and supply chains.
