Evergreen Shipping Group appoints new chairman



       Evergreen Shipping issued the "Announcement on the Change of Chairman of the Board of Directors" on October 7, announcing that the former chairman Zhang Zhengyong was "released". The current chairman of the Taipei Port Container Terminal Co., Ltd. and the chairman of United Wharf Loading and Unloading Co., Ltd., Zhang Yanyi, became Evergreen The new chairman of Shipping.


  Evergreen Shipping explained that the reason for this personnel change was: "The legal person director reassigns the representative to the dismissal of the original chairman. After the resolution of the board of directors, the new chairman is elected."


  The appointment of the new chairman will take effect from October 7, 2020.


   Another media report stated that Zhang Zhengyong will serve as the chairman of Taipei Port Container Terminal Co., Ltd.


   Zhang Zhengyong has been the chairman of Evergreen Shipping since 2013. During this period, Evergreen has been pursuing a big ship strategy. In August 2019, Evergreen Shipping confirmed that it will order up to 11 large ships of 23000TEU, greatly increasing the size of the fleet.


   Zhang Yanyi, the new chairman of Evergreen Shipping, is 64 years old. In 1987, he joined Evergreen Shipping as a seaman and was later promoted to captain. After that, he also worked in various departments of Evergreen Shipping, including crew management, operations, and navigation technology.


   In 2013, Zhang Yanyi served as the chairman of Panama Cologne Container Terminal Company. In January 2020, he was appointed Chairman of Taipei Port Container Terminal Co., Ltd. Taipei Port Container Terminal Co., Ltd. was jointly invested and established by three Taiwanese shipping companies, Evergreen Shipping, Yangming Shipping and Wanhai Shipping.


   Not long ago, another Taiwanese shipping company, Yangming Shipping, also just appointed a new chairman.


   The former chairman Xie Zhijian retired, and his successor Zheng Zhenmao was an economist. He obtained a master's degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin in the United States and is currently active in politics.


  Before entering politics, he was a researcher at the Taiwan Economic Research Institute, chief economist of Citi (Taiwan) Bank, and dean of the Taiwan Institute of Financial Research and Training.
